4160Tuesdays
London-based artisan perfumery 4160Tuesdays has been making fragrances since 2011. Founder and perfumer Sarah McCartney developed the house after writing a 2010 novel about a problem-solving perfumer and then creating the fictional scents when she could not find them elsewhere. Before founding 4160Tuesdays, she spent 14 years as head writer at Lush, writing fragrance descriptions and studying essential oils and herbalism. The name refers to the approximate number of Tuesdays in an 80-year lifetime, an idea tied to using time to do something different and creative. Its perfumes are created by McCartney as indie, handmade interpretations of a place or person at a particular moment. The company was incorporated in the United Kingdom in May 2012. Maxed Out and Midnight in the Palace Garden were shortlisted for Best Indie Scent at the 2016 Fragrance Foundation Awards, while Dirty Honey won Best Indie Fragrance at the EauMG Awards. In May 2025, McCartney collaborated with author Joanne Harris on Vianne’s Confession, released alongside Harris’s prequel to Chocolat.
