A Lab On Fire

A Lab On Fire began as an independent fragrance project and launched its first perfume in 2011. Emerging from the New York fragrance world associated with Shaping Room and S-Perfume, the brand took shape after Nobi Shioya’s departure in 2009, when Carlos Kusubayashi developed a fragrance line based on his own vision. Its first fragrance, L’Anonyme ou OP-1475-A, was introduced at Colette in Paris in April 2011. The brand’s identity centers on creating fragrances without following the industry’s usual rules, presenting scent alongside stories, photographs, poems, references, and other materials. Its early visual language paired minimalist, industrial-chic packaging with collaborations involving established perfumers while directing attention toward the fragrance rather than the creator’s public persona. In 2015, A Lab On Fire partnered with Intertrade Group to develop the brand internationally and presented a re-edited collection at Unscent/Pitti Fragranze. Today, the name is presented as part of the continuing What We Do Is Secret journey, alongside preserved earlier pages and creative materials.
