Abbott NYC
Abbott NYC traces its founding to 2015 in New York City, where Jose Alvarez and Michael Pass established the brand. It launched commercially in 2016 with four fragrances inspired by destinations: The Cape, Sequoia, Mojave, and Telluride. The brand was created to celebrate natural landscapes and use scent to evoke memories of place, an idea shaped in part by Alvarez’s upbringing in Nicaragua in a family of coffee growers. Its fragrance identity is organized as a collection of sensory portraits of destinations and travel experiences. Antoine Lie worked closely with the founders to lead the design of Abbott’s signature fragrances, alongside Steven Claisse, whom Abbott also identifies as a scent maker. The resulting collection connects natural scents with emotional reconnection to landscapes. In a 2022 account, Beauty Independent identified Sequoia as Abbott’s bestseller, making it the clearest documented individual example of the brand’s place-based fragrance legacy.
