Ach. Brito

Founded in Porto in 1918 by brothers Achilles and Affonso de Brito, Ach. Brito has roots in the earlier Claus & Schweder soap and perfume business, where Achilles joined in 1903 and became a partner in 1908. Its early development combined soap and fragrance production with collaborations such as work with perfumer Willy Thessen in the 1920s, while hand-painted labels led to an in-house lithography studio in 1953. The fourth generation entered the business during the 1980s, and Aquiles and Sónia Brito took over its direction in 1994. Ach. Brito’s identity connects Portuguese cultural heritage and artisanal soap and fragrance savoir-faire with packaging and graphic design linking historical references to contemporary presentation. In 2008, it added Braga-based Saboaria e Perfumaria Confiança S.A. Ach. Brito marked its centenary in 2018 as a four-generation Portuguese soap and perfumery legacy, and in 2025 introduced a rebranding combining its heritage with a contemporary direction. Its fragrance legacy includes Lavanda, registered in 1929 and on the market for more than 90 years, and Patti, launched in the 1920s in homage to soprano Adelina Patti.
