Fragrance house

Adam

Adam was founded in Parma, Italy, in 1935 by Count of Parma Camillo Paolo Carmignani, during the expansion of Italian fragrance manufacturing. The house formed part of Parma’s twentieth-century perfume industry, a local tradition shaped by small-scale fragrance businesses, regional packaging, and creative commercial design. After World War II, Adam was associated with Eau de Cologne Adam and Calycanthus, and produced Schu for couturier Emilio Schuberth. First distilled in 1955, Schu later became associated with Schuberth’s period style and the film La Dolce Vita. Adam’s most consequential fragrance was Eau de Bruyere, whose prominence peaked in the mid-1970s. Presented as a new direction in men’s perfume, it combined dry, dark, herbal facets with tobacco and leather. Adam ceased operations around 1985, concluding roughly five decades as a Parma fragrance company.
