Adrienne Landau

Adrienne Landau began as a painter, making bags and capes from discarded fur pieces while trying to support her painting career; fashion later became her professional platform. Her official launch of fur coats, capes, and cloaks dates to 1980, and the brand became known primarily for fur outerwear and accessories such as coats, capes, detachable collars, hats, and vests. Landau was nicknamed “The Cape Lady.” The business gained visibility in the late 1980s, then faced serious difficulties during the 1990s amid management problems, recessionary conditions, changing fashion attitudes, and pressure from the anti-fur movement. In 2022, Meridian Brands acquired the global rights to Adrienne Landau through a long-term master licensing arrangement. The 2023 relaunch introduced the Quartz and Onyx ready-to-wear collections in partnership with Meridian and marked a shift toward a broader lifestyle brand. Landau remained involved as a creative advisor, while her artwork, personal style, vintage wardrobe, and belief in the energy of crystals were cited as influences on the new collections.
