Aequill

Aequill is an independent East London fragrance house formed in 2017 by Thai-British perfumer Jintana Khieochaum. It began with Mum’s Aromatherapy Shop, a home-fragrance range shaped by Khieochaum’s experience helping her mother blend essential oils for a beauty-therapy shop. The name, drawn from “equilibrium,” expresses a balance of contrasting elements. Aequill developed an artist-led fine-fragrance practice in which artists and perfumers collaborate in East London, treating scent as a creative medium and connecting it with contemporary art. Its artist-in-residence programme involves sound, performance, sculpture, fine art and fragrance. From 2021 to 2022, Ecka Mordecai created the Sound range from East London soundscapes, using deep listening to translate rain, birdsong and laughter into unisex perfumes. Launched in 2022 as Aequill’s debut perfume release, Sound comprises three fragrances refined with Khieochaum and an olfactory chemist. Mengting Zhuo’s 2023–2024 residency developed the Time perfume concept around time, memory and presence.
