Agatha Ruiz de la Prada presented her first fashion show in Madrid on 25 March 1981, establishing the foundation of her eponymous firm, which emerged amid Madrid’s early-1980s cultural movement, La Movida Madrileña. Its creative identity is built around colour and recurring motifs including hearts, flowers, clouds, polka dots, stripes, zigzags and spirals. The firm began extending this design language through commercial licenses in the 1980s, with its first license dated to 1986, and later carried it beyond clothing through licensed products and collaborations. The Agatha Ruiz de la Prada Foundation was constituted in 2011 to classify, conserve and disseminate documentary material from the designer’s fashion and creative history. In 2017, Ruiz de la Prada received Spain’s National Prize for Fashion Design in recognition of more than 30 years of work linking fashion with other art forms. In fragrance, Flor is identified as a historic milestone, including the launch of De Flor en Flor with Puig, while Agua won three FiFi Awards in 2003 for fragrance, packaging and communication. Puig’s 2000 acquisition of Myrurgia established its ownership of the relevant Myrurgia fragrance portfolio, including Agatha Ruiz de la Prada.
