agnès b
agnès b. began with a name: Agnès Troublé registered it in 1973, when she needed a byline while working at ELLE. Its design language is subtle, chic, and casual, treating clothing as a means of expression and individual comfort, alongside an engaged, durable, and responsible approach to fashion. In 1979, Troublé created the snap cardigan by cutting a sweatshirt and adding snap fasteners; it became a signature garment and a widely imitated bestseller. The brand’s identity also encompasses contemporary art, photography, film, and music. Troublé opened the Galerie du Jour in 1984 for painting, sculpture, and photography, and in 1997 began the free artist publication Point d’Ironie with Hans Ulrich Obrist. The Tara Expeditions Foundation became active in 2003, followed by agnès b.’s endowment fund in 2009. In 2025, the independent family-owned business marked fifty years with a runway show drawing on its archives, while Agnès continued to design the collections. Its fragrance history includes Le b., its first perfume, launched in 1987, and a return to perfumery in 2025 through a worldwide exclusive fragrance-licensing agreement with Extend Beauty.
