Agonist
Agonist is a Swedish perfume house founded in 2008 by Christine Gustafsson and Niclas Lydeen. Gustafsson brought experience in Paris fashion and trend forecasting, while Lydeen trained in design and worked in Sweden’s design community. The founders created Agonist to express a Scandinavian vision of beauty inspired by Swedish nature and culture, treating scent as abstract art and integrating compositions, raw materials, bottle design, imagery, inspiration, and storytelling into one experience. Its fragrances are presented as unisex and intended for individuals rather than divided into men’s and women’s categories. Agonist’s first product, the limited-edition Kallocain, launched in 2008, inspired by Karin Boye’s novel and housed in a hand-blown bottle made with Kosta Boda. Selected later fragrances continued the brand’s collaboration with glass artist Åsa Jungnelius and Kosta Boda. Rather than centering on one signature scent, the founders describe Agonist as an invisible wardrobe for different moods and occasions; among its fragrances, they single out Blue North as especially close to their creative method, evoking winter winds and firelight in the Swedish archipelago.
