Fragrance house
Agua de Colonia Concentrada
Álvarez Gómez is a Madrid fragrance house whose story began in 1899, when cousins Herminio Álvarez Gómez and Emilio Vuelta Gómez, with Belarmino Gómez also identified in the company history, moved from León and established a perfumery business. In 1912, the founders began making Agua de Colonia Concentrada in the back room of their Calle Sevilla shop, adapting a formula brought by a German visitor to ingredients available in Spain. During the 1990s, the family perfumery and cosmetics business developed into a more modernized fragrance company while retaining its original bottle design with only subtle production-related changes. The business separated its retail and product activities in 2000. Global Saphir Group acquired Álvarez Gómez Perfumes in 2018, and the company register recorded the group as sole shareholder and administrator from 1 March that year. Agua de Colonia Concentrada is the house’s defining fragrance: a fresh, unisex citrus scent described as its icon and best-selling product, with a citrus-led identity associated with Mediterranean botanical essences.
