Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen was founded in London in 1992 by Lee Alexander McQueen, who had trained on Savile Row. Its creative identity is associated with British tailoring—especially cut, proportion and silhouette—alongside theatrical, innovative presentations. McQueen also worked as Givenchy’s head designer from 1996 before leaving the house in 2001. That year, Alexander McQueen entered a partnership with the Gucci Group, now part of Kering; the house is currently part of Kering’s fashion and leather-goods portfolio. Following McQueen’s death in 2010, Sarah Burton became creative director and led the house’s creative direction until 2023. The 2011 Metropolitan Museum of Art retrospective Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty drew 661,509 visitors between May 4 and August 7, placing it among the museum’s ten most visited exhibitions at the time. In October 2023, Seán McGirr was announced as creative director after Burton’s tenure. The house’s first fragrance, Kingdom, launched in 2003.
