Alexandra de Markoff

Alexandra de Markoff was a fashion house established by Countess Alexandra de Markoff and affiliated with Prince George of Russia. Its eponymous fragrance launched in 1939, while the brand also encompassed cosmetics, including facial preparations and later perfume-related goods. Enigma, dated to 1972, is a documented defining Alexandra de Markoff fragrance. Ownership changed hands several times: Charles of the Ritz acquired the brand in 1949; Revlon bought it in June 1987 from a unit of Yves Saint Laurent in a transaction involving Charles of the Ritz brands; and Parlux Fragrances purchased the line from Revlon in 1997, undertaking a complete visual redesign intended to reposition it for younger women. On February 27, 2002, Parlux sold the trademarks, know-how, product information, and related license rights to J.F.C. Marks, L.L.C.
