American Spirit

American Spirit is identified as a men’s perfume released by Gammon in 1997. Gammon had been created by Beiersdorf in 1987 as a men’s-care line encompassing aftershave and deodorant products, and Beiersdorf was its last marketer. Beiersdorf withdrew Gammon from the market at the end of 2016. In 2018, Beiersdorf and Zhong Xiao established Wingman Studios, an internal Hamburg startup, to reactivate Gammon; the revived brand was later removed from the market again. Xiao described the revival as a contemporary men’s-fragrance concept reshaped around Gammon’s earlier identity. Beiersdorf listed Gammon in its Consumer Business Segment portfolio in its 2020 annual report.
