Amouage
Founded in the Sultanate of Oman in 1983 by the Albusaidi family as “The Gift of Kings,” Amouage was created to bring Oman’s perfume heritage to the world through a fragrance expressing the scents of the Orient, particularly Oman. Its identity joins Eastern and Western influences, drawing on Omani Arabian perfume culture and the country’s historical associations with incense and myrrh. The name combines the French word “amour,” meaning love, with the Arabic “mawja,” meaning wave. Amouage evolved from its early-1980s Omani foundation into an international high-perfumery house while maintaining a stated commitment to originality, craftsmanship, and Omani cultural roots. Its fragrance legacy includes critically acclaimed and iconic creations such as Gold, Jubilation, Epic, Dia, Reflection, Honour, and Interlude. Gold, created by Guy Robert, was the house’s first fragrance; Interlude for Man is among Amouage’s best-known fragrances and a bestseller.
