Fragrance house
Anatole Lebreton
Anatole Lebreton began as a perfume collector and writer, following earlier work connected with fine tea and chocolate, and became a perfume composer in 2013. The eponymous fragrance brand launched in 2014, with Lebreton as its founder and principal perfumer. Its first small batch, L’Eau de Merzhin, comprised about 100 bottles and sold out in two weeks after an Italian blogger praised it; the fragrance was later relaunched with a new formula amid cost, regulatory, and natural-material constraints. Working from Provence, the independent house makes handcrafted fragrances inspired by French tradition, nature, and imaginative art, presenting perfume as a form of self-expression, emancipation, and connection, with sincerity, audacity, and generosity as guiding values. An early house trio included L’Eau Scandaleuse, built around tuberose and leather. In December 2024, Lebreton launched Artefacts, a three-fragrance collection based on episodes and concepts from human history.
