Andrea Maack

Andrea Maack is an Icelandic fragrance brand founded by visual artist Andrea Maack, emerging from a series of scented art exhibitions. In 2008, Maack presented SMART (“Smell Art”), her first perfume creation, at an independent gallery show, distributing it with strips of her original artwork. The brand was established in 2010 as an extension of her Reykjavik Museum of Art exhibition exploring what the future would smell like. The project later developed into a fragrance business after Maack created a temporary perfume shop in a Reykjavik design gallery, hand-making 1,000 bottles for a six-week exhibition; international retailers subsequently contacted her about stocking the brand. Her creative method begins with visual ideas such as drawings and develops them collaboratively with perfumers, reflecting her travels, artistic explorations and relationship with Iceland. The brand’s public identity is gender-neutral and positioned at the intersection of fine art and perfumery. Its fragrance legacy includes SMART as an origin work and COVEN, which Maack identified as the brand’s most popular scent by far, with a green character linked to nature and Icelandic darkness and landscape.
