Angel
Angel is the fragrance that defines the identity of Mugler, a fashion-and-fragrance house created by Manfred Thierry Mugler in 1974. Mugler developed as a multidisciplinary house spanning clothing, tailoring, fragrance-making, photography, film direction, and stage direction. Its theatrical runway productions and structured silhouettes shaped its fashion identity, while a 1984 angel-themed show influenced the naming of Angel. Clarins partnered with Thierry Mugler in 1990 to develop the fragrance, which was released in 1992. Created with perfumer Olivier Cresp, Angel is credited with establishing a gourmand fragrance family built around edible accords and patchouli. Its five-pointed blue star bottle introduced a refillable design that L’Oréal describes as the first of its kind in the perfume industry. Angel became a major commercial success and a consistent international best seller. The wider fragrance portfolio included Alien, introduced in 2005 and identified by Clarins as a second pillar by 2007. L’Oréal finalized its acquisition of the Mugler brands from Clarins on 31 March 2020.
