Angela Flanders
Angela Flanders established her original perfumery in East London’s Columbia Road Flower Market in 1985. The business began as a painted-furniture and decorative-furnishings shop, where potpourri made for the premises became the main trade before leading to candles, burning oils, and eventually perfume. After Aromatics was published in 1995, Angela began creating fine personal fragrances informed by perfume history and natural ingredients. Handmade fragrance, natural materials, East London flower-market inspiration, and a family connection to textiles and fashion shape the brand’s creative identity. A second location opened in Artillery Passage near Spitalfields in 2012. That year, Precious One, created by Angela for her daughter Kate Evans’s boutique, won the Fragrance Foundation Award for Best New Independent Fragrance. Angela died in 2016, and Kate took over the business, with the official heritage page dating the takeover to 2017. Under Kate, the Atelier Collection translated the family’s textile history into fragrance. Leather Rosa won the same award in 2023. Today, Angela Flanders is a family-run East London perfumery continuing Angela’s traditions while Kate develops new work.
