Angry Birds
Angry Birds began as Rovio’s 52nd game in 2009, developed in eight months while the company was near bankruptcy. Its concept grew from designer Jaakko Iisalo’s drawings of rounded birds with angry eyebrows; during development, the slingshot and egg-stealing pigs became defining elements of the game’s identity. The company behind the franchise originated in 2003 as Relude, founded by university students Niklas Hed, Jarno Väkeväinen and Kim Dikert, and adopted the name Rovio in 2005. Angry Birds expanded beyond games into licensed products in 2010, animated series in 2013, and feature films released in 2016 and 2019. In January 2026, Rovio and SEGA announced that worldwide Angry Birds licensing activities would be unified under SEGA’s transmedia licensing operations. A licensed fragrance collection launched through Air-Val in spring 2013, comprising four character-linked fragrances and related formats, but the available evidence does not establish a single signature scent or fragrance family.
