Antonio Puig
Antonio Puig Castelló founded Antonio Puig S.A. in Barcelona in 1914, beginning in cosmetics and fragrances; the company is now publicly presented as Puig. In 1922, it launched Milady, identified as the first lipstick manufactured in Spain, and in 1950 the founder’s sons Antonio, Mariano, José María and Enrique Puig Planas joined the business, marking the second family generation. During the 1960s, Puig developed a more international visual identity through Barcelona design collaborations; André Ricard contributed to the Puig logo and the Agua Lavanda bottle known as the Barcelona Bottle, launched in 1962. Puig’s business expanded from its own Spanish fragrances into designer-brand ownership and licensing, creating Paco Rabanne Parfums in 1968 and acquiring businesses including Paco Rabanne, Carolina Herrera New York’s fashion division, Nina Ricci’s fragrance and fashion business, and Myrurgia between 1987 and 2000. Its Mediterranean eau-de-cologne tradition includes Agua Lavanda Puig, launched in 1940, and Agua Brava, launched in 1968; the 2025 Colonias Absolutas Puig collection reinterpreted both. In 2024, Puig began trading publicly while remaining controlled through the Puig family’s holding structure, and acquired a majority stake in Dr. Barbara Sturm.
