Art & Parfum
Art & Parfum is a perfume design studio created in 1946 by Edmond and Thérèse Roudnitska. In 1947, they established its laboratory, creative studio, and production site at Domaine Sainte Blanche in Spéracèdes, near Grasse, pursuing Edmond’s vision of perfume composition as an art and the perfumer as an independent author. Before the studio’s establishment, Edmond created Femme for Rochas in 1944; its success enabled the move to Spéracèdes. He later created major fragrances for Rochas, Dior, and Hermès, including Diorissimo, Eau Sauvage, and Grande Eau d’Hermès, the first perfume for Hermès. In 1978, he established the Roudnitska Foundation to support scientific research into olfaction. Following his death in 1996, his son Michel took over Art & Parfum’s creative work. Olivier Maure took over its direction in 2010, and the company was reported as acquired by him in 2016. Its continuing identity is that of an author-perfumery studio supporting independent perfumers and seeking to preserve Edmond Roudnitska’s artistic and educational legacy. Eau Sauvage, created for Dior in 1966, had a major commercial career and remained among the world’s best-selling men’s fragrances for 25 years.
