Fragrance house
Art Lab. Collection
Art Lab. Collection is a home-fragrance collection built around reed diffusers, sachets, sola-flower diffusers, and clay-and-oil diffuser sets. The wider Art Lab practice shifted decisively toward fragrance after moving to Yamashina in 1993, when it studied the relationship between scent and color with Kiyomitsu Okubo of the Toko School and began with scented ceramic beads. Its stated approach connects fragrance with visual and material elements, while its range later expanded to incense, candles, and deodorant gels. In 2001, the cotoiro series expressed Kyoto’s aesthetic essence through scents, colors, and forms. The Alphabet Series followed in 2011, and 4.Scenes in 2013; the company also developed a solid-perfume material in 2014. A color-changing flower diffuser sold more than 1.8 million units cumulatively and helped the company recover from financial difficulty.
