Atelier Bloem
Atelier Bloem was created by Matthew Malin and Andrew Goetz, the founders of Malin+Goetz, and presented publicly in 2017 as their olfactory venture. The concept drew on Goetz’s seven years in Amsterdam, his visits to the city’s Bloemenmarkt, and the couple’s flower garden in New York’s Hudson Valley. Its debut collection comprised six eau de parfums—1614, Black Tulip, Half Moon, Iris, Nieuw Amsterdam, and William—whose creative identity connected Amsterdam and Dutch history with Dutch royal symbolism, the Hudson Valley’s Dutch-settler past, and the Bloemenmarkt. The brand was intentionally ungendered, with Goetz describing it as not defined by masculine or feminine categories. The fragrance initially called Black Tulip was later renamed Extraordinary Tulip.
