Fragrance house

Atkinsons

Atkinsons was founded in London in 1799 by James Atkinson, who established the business at 44 Gerrard Street, Soho, with recipes for scents and toiletries. In 1826, King George IV appointed it Official Perfumer to the Royal Court of England, and the business moved to 24 Old Bond Street in Mayfair in 1832; during the mid-19th century, James’s brother Edward joined, and the company became J. & E. Atkinson Ltd., later operating boutiques in Paris, the Americas and elsewhere. Its historical identity draws on English-style materials and themes such as white rose, English lavender and British bouquet, with packaging derived from early cologne bottles and rose-scented balm. Perfume Holding, then operating as Morris, relaunched the brand in 2013 after researching its archives and reformulating its fragrances around that identity. EuroItalia acquired Atkinsons 1799 in 2020 and presents it as an A-Gender fragrance house linking contemporary creations to James Atkinson’s original perfumes and historic London boutiques. The 24 Old Bond Street cologne reinvents the original cologne associated with the royal-perfumer appointment. In 2022, EuroItalia launched James, its first Atkinsons fragrance, dedicated to the founder; it won a 2023 Marie Claire award for best male fragrance.
