Avène
The dermatological properties of the spring associated with Avène were identified in 1736. In 1874, French authorities declared Avène Thermal Spring Water to be of public benefit after recognizing its therapeutic properties. Pierre Fabre acquired the spring and spa resort in 1975 and began a research program on the water; Eau Thermale Avène launched in 1990 as a skincare brand dedicated to sensitive skin. Its identity centers on thermal spring water, dermatology, hydrotherapy, and care for sensitive skin. The brand introduced Tolérance Extrême in 1996 under its Sterile Cosmetics principle, created Cicalfate in 2001, and developed the Water Research Center in 2007 to monitor, control, and preserve the water. It later developed I-modulia in 2013 from microflora associated with the spring water and C+-Restore in 2019. At the parent-company level, the Pierre Fabre Foundation became Pierre Fabre Laboratories’ main shareholder in 2005, and Pierre Fabre donated all his shares to it in 2013 to protect the company from financial speculation.
