Avon

Avon traces its origins to 1886, when David H. McConnell founded the California Perfume Company after realizing that perfume samples drew more interest than the books he sold. He recruited Persus Foster Eames Albee as a sales agent, and she helped develop a network of female representatives that linked beauty sales with women’s economic opportunity. Avon’s defining historical identity was its direct-selling system, which hired women exclusively as representatives during its early development. The Avon name and logo first appeared on a cosmetics line in 1929, and the California Perfume Company was renamed Avon in 1939. The Avon Foundation for Women was founded in the United States in 1955, followed by Avon UK’s Breast Cancer Crusade in 1992. In fragrance, Far Away, launched in 1994, is especially associated with the brand; in 2019, Avon identified it as its best-selling fragrance brand and number-one female fragrance brand globally. Natura & Co acquired Avon Products in January 2020. On December 31, 2025, Natura completed the sale of Avon International’s Europe, Africa and Asia business to Regent, while the Avon brand and related rights for Latin America remained with Natura.
