BALENCIAGA BEAUTY
Founded by Cristóbal Balenciaga in San Sebastián in 1917, the Balenciaga House opened in Paris two decades later, establishing its couture base at 10 Avenue George V in 1937. Its creative language is associated with technical perfection, proportion, avant-garde design, architectural silhouettes, and the structural manipulation of the feminine shape. After Jacques Bogart acquired Balenciaga Couture and Perfumes in 1986, the House joined Kering in 2001. Nicolas Ghesquière served as creative director from 1997 to 2012, and Demna Gvasalia, appointed in 2015, was given responsibility for the collections and maison image. Balenciaga returned to couture in 2021 after a 53-year absence. Its fragrance history begins with Le Dix, created in 1947 and named for the Paris address; after a fifteen-year search, archivists rediscovered an original bottle and used it to recreate the scent for the 2025 relaunch. On September 10, 2025, the House unveiled a ten-fragrance collection developed with Kering Beauté. On March 31, 2026, L’Oréal completed its acquisition of Kering Beauté and took a 50-year exclusive licence for Balenciaga fragrance and beauty products, while the transaction did not acquire the fashion House.
