Baobab

Baobab Collection was founded in 2002, after a Belgian couple living in Tanzania drew inspiration from the African landscape and a baobab tree in their garden. After returning to Belgium, they developed large multi-wick scented candles, establishing a brand that joined home fragrance with decorative objects. Its creative identity brings together African heritage and travel-inspired storytelling with Belgian design, craftsmanship, decorative glasswork, and fragrances created and refined in Grasse. Alain Lahy and other investors joined the brand’s development in 2007, while Corinne Bensahel joined with an investment fund in 2015 as Marketing and Creative Director and worked to embed African roots in its identity. The All Seasons collection was an early defining success, pairing coloured wax with fragrances intended to evoke travel across the African continent. In 2016, Baobab launched a women’s cooperative in Madagascar and, in 2017, created the Women candle. On 21 June 2021, Baltisse acquired all shares of Indufin Capital Partners and became Baobab Collection’s main shareholder, while Alain Lahy and management remained important shareholders. By 2022, newer collections were influenced by artisans, fashion, and art while retaining the dual role of scented candle and decorative object.
