Barbara Bui

Barbara Bui began with a boutique-workshop in Les Halles in 1983, where she created clothing; the brand bearing her name launched in 1987 with its first Paris runway show. Self-taught designer Barbara Bui shaped a creative identity combining rock and punk references with contrasts between masculine and feminine silhouettes, leather or vinyl and softer fabrics, and an emphasis on individual freedom and attitude. The brand reached the public market in 1998, and Bui was elected to the Fédération Française de la Couture in 2003. In 2019, it introduced its first men’s collection as an extension of the shared masculine-feminine wardrobe already present in its women’s collections. In 2023, Bui received the rank of Chevalier in France’s Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur, recognizing four decades of work in fashion and culture. From the 2024–2025 season, the house became the official outfitter of Paris Saint-Germain’s women’s section for two years, bringing its clean lines, mixed materials, oversized proportions, and recurring piercing detail into a sports context.
