Baruti
Baruti was founded in Amsterdam in 2014 by self-taught perfumer Spyros Drosopoulos, who released its first fragrances in 2015 after studying perfumery and experimenting with hundreds of materials. The brand developed after Drosopoulos ended his earlier venture, Magnetic Scent; following a cease-and-desist dispute over that project’s name, he created a new name, products and packaging. Baruti takes its name from the Greek word for gunpowder, reflecting an artistic identity that treats perfume as an explosive, edge-bearing form of expression. Its creative approach draws on visual arts, rare raw materials and travel, combining unusual compositions with everyday wearability while challenging conventional gender divisions in perfumery. Drosopoulos’s background in psychology and cognitive neuroscience shaped his path into perfumery, and he remains Baruti’s founder and sole perfumer. NOOUD, conceived as an oud reconstruction without actual oud, and Chai have both been identified as Baruti bestsellers.
