Basile
Basile began with a tailoring workshop founded by Remo Basile in 1951. In the 1970s, his son Gianfranco transformed it into an industrial clothing company, extending the business from traditional menswear tailoring to men’s and women’s prêt-à-porter while retaining tailored cuts, careful fabric selection, and a sartorial approach. The brand’s style was characterized by restrained, coherent design, sobriety, and consistency, and its creative history included collaborations with Walter Albini and Luciano Soprani. In the mid-1970s, Basile joined Gruppo FTM. The women’s Basile brand was sold to Mabro in 1994; after its women’s collections were halted, Gigi Monti reacquired the brand in 2009 and planned a relaunch through licensing agreements. Today, the Basile trademark is owned by Dr. Silvestro Muccillo through Reality Srl, with the brand operating through licensees. Its fragrance range, launched with Sirpea, dates Basile femme and Basile Uomo to 1987, respectively a green floral eau de parfum and a leathery chypre eau de toilette.
