Fragrance house
Beaufort
Beaufort was founded in 2013 by musician Leo Crabtree, beginning as a handmade moustache-wax project shaped by his experiences at sea. After early experiments with perfumed grooming products, the brand turned its focus to fragrance, developing an identity rooted in maritime history, British weather and sea culture, smoke, memory, and stories from history, literature, and poetry. Its first fragrance collection, Come Hell Or High Water, launched in 2015 with Tonnerre, Coeur de Noir, and Vi et Armis; the Revenants collection followed in 2017, and Force Majeure in 2024. Crabtree serves as Beaufort’s founder and creative director, creating compositions around selected overdosed ingredients and a narrative kernel. Tonnerre is a defining part of the brand’s fragrance legacy: it sparked Crabtree’s passion for perfume and translates maritime history and battle imagery into smoke, gunpowder, blood, brandy, and sea spray. Force Majeure develops the concept of the named sea areas used in the Beaufort Scale and BBC Shipping Forecast.
