Beautyblender
Beautyblender took shape through makeup artist Rea Ann Silva’s work on Girlfriends, a television series shot in high definition. While developing tools for complexion application, Silva experimented with sponge shapes and settled on an edgeless egg form. The business began selling the sponge in 2002, and Silva formally established Beautyblender LLC in 2003. Its initial professional use broadened into consumer beauty as internet video and social-media beauty content encouraged wider experimentation with makeup application. Beautyblender went nationwide through Sephora in 2012, and Silva moved to the business full-time in 2013 after sales accelerated. In 2018, she expanded Beautyblender into complexion makeup, drawing on her experience as a Latina makeup artist working across skin tones. The brand is especially identified with the Original Beautyblender makeup sponge and complexion products rather than with a fragrance collection.
