Berlin Cosmetics

Berlin Cosmetics’ corporate history reaches back to VEB Berlin-Kosmetik, which was associated with the Koivo and Indra brands in East Germany and the Eastern Bloc. After the cosmetics combine was dissolved in 1990, the business was reorganized as Treuhand-administered Berlin Kosmetik GmbH. American investor Raymond J. Learsy acquired it in 1993, after which it operated as Berlin Cosmetics, before entering insolvency in 1997. That autumn, Rolf Giesen, owner of Maxim Markenprodukte, acquired the company and established Berlin Cosmetics GmbH & Co. KG. In spring 2001, Berlin Cosmetics acquired the established Kaloderma brand from Schwarzkopf-Henkel. The company’s history places it within the MAXIM group, records the end of production in Berlin in 2006 and its transfer to MAXIM Markenprodukte’s Pulheim site, while a reference account identifies Echternach, Luxembourg, as its current base and Kaloderma as its focus.
