Bibi Bigler
Bibi Bigler’s work is rooted in biology, botany, and perfumery. She studied biology and botany at the University of Zurich from 1987 to 1994, trained as a perfumer at Givaudan’s International Perfumery School in Grasse from 1995 to 1996, and worked in flavour creation at Givaudan Switzerland until 2007. A five-month stay on an Engadin sheep pasture in 2008 became a research period devoted to alpine scents. In 2009, she began working independently through Parfum Bar GmbH, developing personalised perfumes and distributing her own fine-fragrance line. Based in Aathal, Switzerland, her studio draws on flowers, fruits, wood, and spices, with each perfume conceived as a story. Its aesthetic allows fragrances to be irritating or provocative as well as conventionally beautiful, seeking an emotional response. Alpine nature is a recurring fragrance theme: her first perfume interpreted the rare Dianthus flower found on an Engadin alp, while another evoked an Engadin Swiss-pine forest. In 2022, she also created a scent composition inspired by the historic library of Schloss Wildegg for a scent-and-literature installation.
