Black Paw

Established in Shanghai in 2018 by Huang Jing, who had previously worked in the perfume foreign-trade business, Black Paw began by selling imitation designer fragrances online before shifting to original products. Its creative identity draws on Chinese local stories, natural life, and traditional culture, with a design language oriented toward simplicity and nature. The brand’s original Chinese-themed collections include the Shanye series, inspired by Tao Yuanming’s imagery of returning to nature, alongside later tea-, literary-, and traditional-culture-led series. Tea-inspired fragrances form a defining part of Black Paw’s public identity: its tea collection spans green, oolong, white, and black tea, using Chinese tea references to develop an Eastern fragrance language. Black Paw has also extended this cultural approach through collaborations, including a fragrance created with Shanghai Library around the atmosphere of its reading forest.
