BMW

BMW traces its official founding to 7 March 1916, when Bayerische Flugzeugwerke was established. After aircraft-engine production was prohibited following the First World War, the company moved into railway brakes and inboard engines; in 1920, it was sold to Knorr-Bremse, while Camillo Castiglioni acquired the BMW name, logo, engine facilities, and workforce. BMW unveiled its first motorcycle, the R 32, in 1923 and entered automobile production in 1928, followed by its own models in 1932. In 1959, shareholders and employees rejected a proposed takeover by Daimler-Benz, after which Herbert Quandt expanded his shareholding and helped BMW remain independent. BMW acquired the Rover Group in 1994, sold it in 2000, retained MINI, and relaunched the marque in 2001. Its identity now spans BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce, and BMW Motorrad, alongside a stated focus on future mobility, sustainability, and resource efficiency. BMW entered fragrance through a licensing agreement reported in 2023 and introduced its first collection in 2025 with Mavive: the eaux de parfum AMBERNESS and BERGAMOOD, developed with Frank Voelkl and Alexandra Monet.
