Bob Marley

Bob Marley, born Robert Nesta Marley in Jamaica on February 6, 1945, built a public legacy that extended beyond reggae into cultural and social influence before his death on May 11, 1981. In 1965, he founded the Tuff Gong record label, a name drawn from his teenage nickname that later became part of the identity carried by the Marley family brand. The Wailers’ Catch a Fire, released on April 13, 1973, was the group’s first album on Island Records and marked a major step in Marley’s international musical development. The brand’s identity is rooted in Rastafari, Jamaican culture, social change, and messages of love, peace, unity, and community upliftment. Its legacy has been recognized through Marley’s posthumous induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, his GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award and Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 2001, and Catch a Fire’s induction into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame in 2010. Marley Merchandising LLC, a wholly owned Marley family entity, owns, licenses, and markets a global portfolio of Marley consumer brands, including Bob Marley. Marley Fragrance launched in Jamaica in September 2025 as a six-scent unisex collection organized around love, peace, and unity, with Jamaican-inspired materials and bottle references to the Legend album.
