Borghese
Borghese began in 1957, when Princess Marcella Borghese created a skincare and cosmetics line inspired by Tuscan spa therapies, healing mud, mineral waters, botanicals, and modern beauty science. Its formal launch followed a partnership with Revlon founder Charles Revson that took effect on January 1, 1958. Marcella’s early vision also linked beauty with fashion: she had a chemist prepare eight lipstick samples and worked with eight Italian designers on coordinating outfits. She controlled the brand from 1958 to 1976 while Revlon handled U.S. advertising, marketing, distribution, and sales; on July 1, 1976, Revlon acquired her rights and goodwill in the Borghese-related names and marks. The brand’s public identity combines Italian beauty heritage and at-home spa rituals with botanicals, mineral-rich mud, and modern skincare science. In 1985, Borghese launched Fango Active Mud for face and body; the original mud mask has sold more than 20 million jars. By 2010, the company was owned by members of the Saudi royal family, and the Borghese family no longer had a role in the global company.
