Borsalino
Founded by Giuseppe Borsalino on April 4, 1857, in Alessandria, Italy, Borsalino began as a felt-hat workshop and gradually developed a broader style identity through fabric, straw, and women’s collections. The brand received the Grand Prix at the 1900 Paris Universal Exposition, after which its hats gained international recognition. From the 1920s, Borsalino commissioned artists including Marcello Dudovich, Giorgio Muggiani, Gino Boccasile, Max Huber, and Armando Testa for its advertising, creating a durable connection with the arts. Cinema also shaped its public identity: Borsalino hats appeared in films including Casablanca, while the 1970 film Borsalino took the brand’s name and starred Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo. After the Borsalino family’s majority stake was sold in 1987, the company went through further ownership changes and was declared bankrupt in December 2017. Haeres Equita became the majority stakeholder in 2017 and acquired the company through the 2018 court process. The Borsalino Museum opened in 2023, and in 2025 the brand introduced Black Iris as the first fragrance in a new collection, alongside White Iris.
