Borsari Di Parma

Borsari Di Parma traces its origins to 1870, when Lodovico Borsari obtained the recipe associated with Parma violet and began producing it for a wider public. Its defining historical scent, Violetta di Parma, was recreated and named by Borsari from the violet fragrance associated with Maria Luigia, Duchess of Parma. In 1897, after taking over a barber shop in Parma, Lodovico Borsari began operating independently on an industrial basis and expanded the fragrance range. The business split in 1900, and in the 1970s Borsari & C. joined La Ducale and Trionfale to form Profumi di Parma. Its historical identity includes bottle forms, glassmaking, labels, packaging, posters, and scented calendars, including a 1928 advertising poster attributed to Erberto Carboni and collaborations with Bormioli glassworks. Although Borsari & Figli closed in 1970, Violetta di Parma continued to be produced and sold internationally. The company is identified as still operating under the denomination Borsari 1870.
