Fragrance house
Bottled
Bottled refers to BOSS Bottled, a fragrance range associated with HUGO BOSS. The wider house was founded in Metzingen, Germany, in 1924 by Hugo Ferdinand Boss. Its postwar development included the introduction of standardized men’s suits in 1960, the takeover by Hugo Boss’s grandsons Jochen and Uwe Holy in 1969, and the launch of the BOSS brand in the early 1970s. HUGO BOSS entered fragrance through its first fragrance license in 1984. BOSS Bottled launched in August 1998; perfumer Annick Menardo created the fragrance, which has been regarded as an iconic men’s scent. In 1993, HUGO BOSS added HUGO and BALDESSARINI alongside BOSS in a tri-brand strategy, later discontinuing BALDESSARINI collections in 2006. HUGO BOSS’s principal shareholder Permira sold its shares in 2015. In 2016, Coty’s merger with P&G’s Specialty Beauty Business transferred the Hugo Boss fragrance license to Coty. In December 2022, HUGO BOSS and Coty renewed their fragrance license agreement beyond 2035, covering BOSS and HUGO fragrances and future developments complementing the BOSS Bottled range.
