Brosseau
Jean-Charles Brosseau graduated from a Paris high-fashion school and founded his fashion house on Paris’s Left Bank in 1955. In 1970, he established a salon on Place des Victoires, and in 1981 the house entered fragrance with Ombre Rose. The scent became a best seller in France, the United States, the Middle East, and the Far East, while the official history describes it as a classic of high perfumery. Perfumer Françoise Caron is credited with the composition, whose creative brief recalled Brosseau’s grandmother’s face powder and his youth. The fragrance portfolio later expanded to include the Fleurs d’Ombre feminine line, Collection Homme, and additional Ombre fragrances. Its license history included a dispute with Inter Parfums that led to a 1999 judgment directing the company to turn over the Ombre Rose license; the Paris Court of Appeal confirmed the transfer claim in February 2001.
