Fragrance house
Bruno Acampora
Bruno Acampora founded the Acampora perfume house in 1974, after first making fragrances for himself and friends; early sales came through his boutiques, including Sagan in Capri. He came from a Neapolitan family of glove makers and was associated with Italy’s high-fashion world before developing the perfume business. The brand’s origins are tied to artisan perfume-making in Naples, with a materials laboratory focused on selecting raw materials and using traditional production methods. It remains privately held and is guided by Bruno Acampora’s son Brunello, while Brunello and Sonia Acampora carry on the founder’s olfactory work as his direct heirs. The family’s olfactory identity centers on Southern Italian values, traditional craftsmanship, pure essential oils, and continuity with methods used in the 1970s. Miguel Matos became the first independent perfumer invited into the creation process, producing the Acampora 54 and Tadema collections. Acampora 54 drew on New York’s Studio 54, while Tadema took inspiration from Pompeii, Mediterranean culture, and Lawrence Alma-Tadema’s paintings. Young Hearts won the 2020 Art and Olfaction Award in the Independent category. Musc is the brand’s defining fragrance, an instant success that reached cult status and became a symbol of Italian perfumery and Naples.
