Bruno Fazzolari
Bruno Fazzolari founded his fragrance brand in 2012, developing it as a small independent studio without outside investment. A painter and art professor, Fazzolari began blending fragrances while working on paintings and exhibiting the scents alongside his art; as interest grew, he began selling bottles through his artist website in 2013. The business, initially conducted under his personal name, was rebranded as FZOTIC in 2017. Fazzolari is a formally trained painter and self-taught perfumer, and he creates every fragrance himself, guided by artistic exploration rather than market research. His work connects visual art and scent, informed in part by his experience of synesthesia and cross-sensory associations. Lampblack, which originated in a series of ink paintings, was first shown at Gallery Paule Anglim, selected by Artforum for its 2013 Top Ten, and received a four-star review from Luca Turin in 2014. In 2017, the practice also produced Unsettled, an interdisciplinary work commissioned by the Nevada Museum of Art that combined perfume with a booklet, poster, and sculptural bottle.
