Brut (Unilever)

Brut launched in 1964, with its official history placing its introduction in Paris during the 1960s. A 1964 Fabergé fragrance, it is classified in the fougère and ambery families. Its public identity developed through men’s fragrance and grooming, associated with a green bottle, a recurring scent identity, and the advertising phrase “splash it all over.” Unilever agreed in 1989 to acquire Fabergé’s personal-care lines, including Brut. On September 30, 2003, Unilever completed the sale of Brut in North and Latin America to Helen of Troy, covering fragrances, deodorants, and antiperspirants in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and elsewhere in Latin America. Brut was added to Elida Beauty’s formalized global portfolio in 2022. Unilever completed the sale of Elida Beauty to Yellow Wood Partners on June 1, 2024. On January 20, 2026, Elida Beauty merged with Suave Brands to form Evermark, whose international portfolio includes Brut. Brut Original is identified as “classic Brut,” while reference material dates the Brut composition to 1964 and classifies it in the fougère and ambery families.
