Calaj

Calaj is an artisanal niche perfume house based in Arad, Romania, founded in 2020 by Flavius Călaj and named after his family. Before creating the house, Călaj established NicheScent, a business focused on niche and independent fragrance houses, and Calaj emerged from that experience. Its first release, The First Edition, arrived in 2020 as a four-fragrance limited collection centered on traditions and craftsmanship, created by Miguel Matos and C de la Niche. Calaj’s creative identity emphasizes original compositions, limited editions, perfumer collaborations, and handmade presentation developed with local small companies. The house later introduced the Silver Collection, featuring hand-finished bottles, lids, and boxes and perfumes by Miguel Matos, Sophie Behaghel, and Camille Chemardin. In 2025, Calaj marked its fifth anniversary with a limited edition of 100 numbered bottles. Transilvania, identified by the house as its traditional perfume, was among the foundational fragrances launched with The First Edition.
