Calypso St. Barth
Calypso St. Barth dates its founding to 1992, when its first store opened on Saint Barthélemy and the company was founded in New York City. Founded by Christiane Celle with Antoine Verglas as co-founder, it began as a resort-wear boutique and developed into a lifestyle retailer centered on travel-inspired clothing, accessories, and home-related offerings. Its creative language drew on Saint Barth’s resort culture and French bohemian references. In 2007, the brand sold a majority interest to Solera Capital, while the founders retained a significant ownership position; a Solera subsidiary later filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection in 2017, interrupting the brand’s first phase. A 2021 relaunch revisited its archive of French bohemian codes, embroidery, block printing, appliqué, and travel-oriented design. For Spring 2024, Sophia Duff became creative director and worked from the archives to update that feminine, bohemian identity. In fragrance, Calypso St. Barth is particularly associated with Lea, identified as its first and most popular fragrance.
