Candie's

Candie’s origins are dated variously to 1977 and 1981, and the brand began with a high-heeled wooden-sole slide; Charles Cole registered the name in 1978 and first applied it to an order of 600 pairs of shoes. Between 1978 and 1981, El Greco sold 14 million pairs of Candie’s slides, while Iconix later recorded that one in four American women owned a pair by the mid-1980s. The business became a public company in February 1993, the year Iconix’s predecessor acquired the Candie’s trademark from New Retail Concepts. Candie’s developed from footwear into a young women’s lifestyle brand spanning apparel, accessories and footwear, with celebrity-led campaigns featuring figures including Britney Spears, Fergie, Destiny’s Child and Bella Thorne. Its fragrance launched in 1999; in 2020, Horizon took the fragrance and beauty license and relaunched the signature scent with contemporary packaging and marketing, followed by the Legacy Fragrance collection in 2021. In August 2021, Lancer Capital completed its acquisition of Iconix Brand Group.
